Opera Wine 2021 - Tommasi Family Estates double up

Saturday 19 June 2021

Italian Wine world restarts from Verona and Opera Wine, the most exclusive event in the world of wine business.

This year there is the celebration of the 10th year since the first edition and Tommasi Family Estates has always been invited to represent the best of Italian wine production, a combination of emotion, culture and craftsmanship.

In this edition of the 10th anniversary, which brings together 186 producers from all over Italy, we are presenting  two of our excellences:

Veneto: De Buris Amarone della Valpolicella Classico doc Riserva 2009

Basilicata: Paternoster Don Anselmo Aglianico del Vulture doc 2015

From the collaboration of Veronafiere and Vinitaly with the prestigious American magazine Wine Spectator, in 2012 was born
OperaWine, Finest Italian Wines: 100 Great Producers selected by Wine Spectator.

OperaWine offers international wine professionals the opportunity to taste and get to know the best Italian wines presented by Italy’s 100 greatest producers according to Wine Spectator.

Each year, the judges taste the selected Italian wines and provide reviews and scores based on different criteria.
After the assessment, the list of the top 100 Italian wines is revealed, promoting Italian wine diversity and high quality.

Opera Wine represents the return in the presence of a market occasion and the face-to-face rite of  wine tastings: We have missed this so much!

Here below the two great scores we received from Wine Spectator

De Buris Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva 2009 - 94 /100
"A beautifully aromatic red, with hints of truffle, loamy earth and dried mint playing on the nose and accenting the baked cherry and raspberry fruit, fig cake and coffee liqueur flavors on the palate. Full-bodied and rich, yet finely knit and elegant overall, with mouthwatering acidity married to the range of flavor. The silky tannins create a pleasing viscosity on the lingering finish."

Paternoster Don Anselmo Aglianico del Vulture Doc 2015 - 92/100
"Creamy tannins firm this suave, medium- to full-bodied red, while lightly juicy acidity and a tang of tarry smoke mesh with flavors of wild cherry, fennel seed and tobacco. Offers a long, fragrant finish."

Casisano Colombaiolo 2013 reviews

Summer has brought  great reviews for our Casisano Colombaiolo Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2013.
Here below the report of the best international wine critics:
92 - Robert Parker Wine Advocate
From the Tommasi family in Northern Italy, the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Colombaiolo opens to elegant delineation with precise aromas of dark cherry, spice, balsam herb and fragrant licorice. This wine delivers a mid-weight approach that is gracefully supported by silky tannins, balanced acidity and a pretty inner fabric that is characteristic of Sangiovese in a cool vintage such as this. - M.Larner
92 - Wine Spectator
Rich, with a supple texture wrapped around cherry, plum, earth, leather and bitter almond flavors. The vibrant acidity adds freshness as this dissolves into a finish of dense, lively tannins. Best from 2021 through 2040 - B. Sanderson
92 - James Suckling
Some strong menthol and herbal aromas here with hints of red fruit also in the mix. The palate has a supple and settled core of bright red cherries and approachable, fullish body.
92 - Wine Enthusiast
Aromas of plum, pipe tobacco, leather and menthol lead the nose along with a with of damp soil. The taut medium-bodied palate offers crushed cranberry, wild cherry and baking spice alongside firm, close-grained tannins - K. O'Keefe
91 - Decanter
Casisano is among the highest properties in Montalcino. Colombaiolo is a particularly fresh southeast-facing parcel, where the gravelly soil gives naturally low yields and wines with abundant structure. Aromas of cherry, dried tarragon, tea and tobacco are nicely defined. More sinewy than round, the palate needs some time to flesh out but its bright acidity will keep it lively.
90 - Vinous
Medium bright red. Pure, musky aromas of redcurrant, sour red cherry, hint, cinnamon, and earth tones. At once dense and juicy, with a light touch to the sweet, red fruit and floral flavors. Finishes taut and long, but with ripe tannins and persistent notes of hint and red fruit. - I. D'Agata
17/20 - Jancis Robinson
Mid ruby with bright orange tinges. Compact, subdued on the nose. Rich fruit on the palate followed by tangy acidity. Great balance and length. Contained power. - W. Speller
92 - Falstaff
Im Mund weich und warm, spannt sich samtig über die Zunge, önet sich auf eleganten zitrusfruchtigen Nuancen, angenehm und klar im Abgang.
Soft and warm on the palate, velvety over the tongue, rich in elegant citrus nuances, pleasant and clear finish.

Tommasi Amarone 90+ points

Great reviews for our Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico dogc, 2011 Vintage.
92 - ROBERT PARKER - WINE ADVOCATE
The 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a dark and extra-ripe expression with broad shoulders and a heavy frame. The warmth of the 2011 vintage shows clearly with darkened aromas of blackberry preserves and candied cherry. Bold layers of spice, leather and tobacco stand at the back. The wine boasts smooth, velveteen tannins. Drink this Amarone within the next 5-8 years. Monica Larner
91 - WINE SPECTATOR
An elegant red, well-knit and fresh, offering a subtle, silky palate of sun-dried cherry, plum tart, forest floor and black licorice drop, with hints of mocha and dried herb. Supple tannins frame the flavor range and emerge on the finish. Drink now through 2025.
