5 reasons to be proud of 2020

2020 has been a year we'll never forget.
Not only because it was particularly trying for all of us, but because it genuinely brought noteworthy results.

  1. A shower of awards rewarded the ongoing work of Giancarlo with his team of oenologists, Emiliano Falsini and Fabio Mecca-Paternoster.
Ca 'Florian Amarone della Valpolicella Classico docg Riserva 2012 received Tre Bicchieri recognition in the Gambero Rosso 2021 guide, the Corona in the ViniBuoni d'Italia 2021 guide, the 5 Grappoli in the Bibenda 2021 Guide, the 3 Stelle in the Veronelli 2021 guide and excellent scores by international critics, of which 94 points awarded by James Suckling and Falstaff stand out.
Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso and 5 Grappoli from Bibenda also for Casisano Brunello di Montalcino 2015 doc, which received excellent 90+ marks internationally from renowned publications like James Suckling, Vinous, Decanter, Falstaff e Meininger's, and in particular 94 points from Wine Spectator.
Top honors arrived for Paternoster, which confirms its status as an icon and benchmark for Aglianico del Vulture: Ddon Anselmo Aglianico del Vulture doc 2015 and Rotondo Aglianico del Vulture doc 2017 dominate every ranking.
  2. 2020 was also an important milestone year for our Lugana Le Fornaci project. We've strongly believed in Lugana, both as wine and place, and are heavily invested in our dream to expand and develop one of our most important projects to date. Tenuta Le Fornaci consists of three main vineyards located in different areas of the Lugana DOC for a total of 45 hectares: two parcels located inland and a larger one towards Lake Garda in Sirmione.
A press event last August on a sailboat celebrated amidst Lake Garda's wind, vocation and wine symbolized that the project linked to the Lugana doc has officially set sail. The positive response to Le Fornaci Lugana doc 2019 in the principal markets and recognition from critics is a sign that the launch is on course for success.
Everything is set for 2021, which will see the spring launch of Le Fornaci Rosè 2020, a blend that will delight the most demanding palates, followed the autumn launch of Le Fornaci Lugana doc Riserva 2018.
  3. 2020 saw a stellar rise in digital activity. We organized Tommasi Digital Days, a series of special appointments and training dedicated to our Italian sales force and Ho.Re. Ca. customers. Our importers and international customers participated in specially organized seminars and digital tastings. Connections, the importance of maintaining and strengthening relationships built over the years, have always been a focal point of our business.
Consumers also had a chance to participate in a series of special tastings via Instagram live and Winemaker dinners, conducted by Giancarlo Tommasi and special guests. Guests were able to converse firsthand and learn about the wines and his work. These events brought us into the kitchens of food and wine lovers, where we prepared a meal together, joined by the conviviality of a good glass of wine.
The digital activity boosted our end-of-year results, where we see positive signs for retail and e-commerce sales, the real boom in 2020.
  4. We never stood still; we've got projects to conclude and new ones to launch. We are working on the expansion and adaptation of our headquarters and winery in Pedemonte. Those who've visited us at our Wine Shop witnessed how much progress we've made, always with the intent to guarantee maximum quality. We're defining the projects to expand the Casisano-Montalcino, Poggio al Tufo-Maremma and Caseo-Oltrepò wineries. We just completed new vineyards at Poggio al Tufo - Maremma and Masseria Surani - Puglia.
Other exciting wine-related projects will come to light next year. The first and foremost will be the spring launch of our first Metodo Classico from Tenuta Caseo in Oltrepò Pavese, the home of Pinot Noir.
  5. What was never lacking in 2020 was the Strength of Family: a family that remained tight-knit and well organized, ready to respond with agility and flexibility to fluctuating and unpredictable change. This year, called on us to find effective alternatives and quick responses as we managed a sizeable company and above all the human resources. Not only were we able to guarantee work, despite the challenges of 2020, we were also able to hire new employees and expand our team.

This 2020 brought us gratification, creativity and new stimuli for our future.
We now look onward with hope and confidence to 2021, just around the corner.

Casisano Brunello 2015

Part two of the Sip Trip episodes dedicated to the history and traditions of the Valpolicella is finally on-line.
The Tommasi family brings the blessings of much needed rain when Pierangelo Tommasi

Sip Trip is a journey through Italy with host Jeff Porter and friends, where he explores the vineyards, the producers, the wine, and the terroir of Italy through the lens of its world-renowned culture. From Veneto in the North to Puglia in the south, Sip Trip is set to be Italy’s greatest road trip with America’s biggest wine lovers.

A Christmas menu at high altitude: Air Dolomiti & Tommasi Family Estates

A Christmas menu at high altitude: Air Dolomiti & Tommasi Family Estates join forces for a voyage through the flavors of Italy
Select produce, tradition and creativity: these are the ingredients for an unforgettable gastronomic experience, accompanied by the Tommasi family’s finest wines
Air Dolomiti, the Italian airline in the Lufthansa group, is getting ready for Christmas: from 19th December 2019 to 6th January 2020, its business class passengers will be able to savor a special Christmas menu, created together with Tommasi Family Estates, which celebrates the authentic Italian tradition and the atmosphere of the festive season. Air Dolomiti thus further reinforces its partnership with Tommasi, which is already its Official Winery for 2019.
Air Dolomiti and Tommasi share a concern for the care of their clients and the promotion of authentic regional identity. This new voyage through the country’s food and wines has been devised to offer travelers a culinary experience whose quality is in line with the Company’s high standards.
Today, Tommasi represents not only wine, but also top-class restaurants: Ristorante Borgo Antico at the Villa Quaranta Wine Hotel & Spa, and the Caffè Dante Bistrot, in the heart of Verona. Chefs Emanuele Selvi and Alessandro Bozza have come up with a menu together based on inviting food and wine pairings and genuine flavors: a gastronomic itinerary in which the ingredients, tradition and unquestionable creativity will allow passengers to enjoy a unique experience.
The menu envisages a course for every moment of the day: for breakfast, Torta Russa, a typical specialty of Verona with a delicious filling of almonds and amaretto cookies; and for lunch, roast stuffed rabbit, braised Veronese radicchio and a Valpolicella wine sauce, a tasty and unusual delicacy. For an afternoon snack, there is a zabaglione Bavarian cream with Cologna Veneta nougat and a heart of coffee. Lastly, for dinner, the dish is Lucanica sausage cooked in Ripasso wine on turmeric-flavored Jerusalem artichoke cream with crispy Parmesan half spheres and candied ginger: a perfect combination enhanced by the oriental spices. Also, for lunch and dinner on selected routes, rosemary-scented cheese sbrisolona (crumble) will be available.
Accompanying these dishes will be the Rosé version of Caseo Pinot Nero, the 100% Falanghina-based Paternoster Vulcanico and the elegant Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore D.O.C.. These exclusive selections will make the flight particularly festive and special during the holiday period.
Air Dolomiti’s passengers have shown great appreciation for the partnership with Tommasi: from January of this year until now they have in fact bought around 30,000 bottles of the wines from the Tommasi Family Estates that have been selected for the “Winery of the Year” program : Casisano Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C., Tommasi Le Fornaci Lugana D.O.C. and Caseo Pinot Nero Brut.

TOMMASI AMARONE 90+ AT VINEXPO BORDEAUX 2015
Four generations grown in Valpolicella Classico region among vineyards and enhancement of the territory.
A wine as a symbol: the Amarone, whose Tommasi is one of the most renowned Ambassadors to the world
Tommasi, historical wine producer based in Valpolicella Classico area, is proud to attend Vinexpo Bordeaux with his Amarone della Valpolicella Classico docg 2011, which deserved great reviews by the most prestigious wine magazines.
92 points, Monica Larner of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
The 2011 Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a dark and extra-ripe expression with broad shoulders and a heavy frame. The warmth of the 2011 vintage shows clearly with darkened aromas of blackberry preserves and candied cherry. Bold layers of spice, leather and tobacco stand at the back. The wine boasts smooth, velveteen tannins. Drink this Amarone within the next 5-8 years.
91 points, Alison Napsjus of Wine Spectator:
The 2011 Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is an elegant red, well-knit and fresh, offering a subtle, silky palate of sun-dried cherry, plum tart, forest floor and black licorice drop, with hints of mocha and dried herb. Supple tannins frame the flavor range and emerge on the finish. Drink now through 2025.
At Vinexpo Tommasi presents for the first time the Ca’ Florian Amarone Riserva vintage 2008, this is just the 2nd vintage released and it is simply great. The wine is aged for 4 years, first in tonneau of 500 Lt and the other three years in big Slavonian oak casks. The wine is than refined in the bottle for another year. Ca’ Florian Amarone Riserva has a remarkable personality and a bright, deep ruby color. Complex and elegant on the nose, full body with a great elegance it has silky tannins that give to the wine a pleasant long finish.
Vinexpo is also the perfect stage to introduce CASISANO, the new investment of the Tommasi family, in Montalcino. The total estate is 53 hectares, of which 22 are vineyards for Brunello and Rosso and 12 are planted with olive trees.
Tommasi is one of the most renowned Ambassadors of great Italian wines in the world and Vinexpo is always a great opportunity to meet our partners and wine people to make business and strengthen our wine brands in the world.
