Lugana Le Fornaci - A cultivated dream

The Tommasi Family project tied to the production of Lugana doc and its territory by Lake Garda.

On 27 and 28 August, two days of wind and vineyards were held on Lake Garda.

A tour of Lake Garda on the two-masted San Nicolò, a fully restored sailing ship, launched in 1925, which in its roaring years transported goods and vineyard poles from one shore to the other of the Garda. Not just a coincidence. Two hours of cruise to admire one of the most beautiful landscapes of our territory.

Following a dedicated dinner at the La Speranzina restaurant, where chef Fabrizio Molteni proposed a menu dedicated to Lugana Le Fornaci.

On Friday, at the Tommasi headquarters in Pedemonte, has been organized  a vertical tasting of four vintages of Lugana Le Fornaci.
The technical tasting with the oenologist Giancarlo Tommasi allowed an exploration of the soils of Lake Garda, an interesting comparison on the longevity of Lugana and the evolution of the Le Fornaci project.

Lugana has been highly desired wine to add to Tommasi portfolio due to its extraordinary elegance and depth;
there’s an intense passion for Lugana, an unmistakable, rigorous, and classy white wine that is able to win the battle of time.

With a strong belief in the Lugana territory and its wine, the Tommasi family has cultivated a dream of expanding the project.
In 2013, after conducting much research in the area, additional investments were made in Desenzano.  The Fornaci Estate, therefore, is made up of three main vineyards located in different areas of Lugana DOC, making up a total of 45 hectares: one larger plot of land by Lake Garda, and two further inland, all in Sirmione.
All of the vineyards were planted with a single typical vine variety, called Turbiana, using the guyot training system and a high vine density (approximately 5,000 vines per hectare).

There is also an important project in the works to accompany this investment: the construction of a winery entirely dedicated to the production of Lugana as well as a building destined for hospitality and wine tourism, with an area for tastings and refreshments for all visitors.
Two new references will be launched in 2021 to complete the project: Le Fonarci Lugana doc Riserva version, vintage 2018 and Le Fornaci Rosé, a premium rosé wine.

Every year all over Italy on August 10, the night of the shooting stars, wine lovers raise their glasses for the most-anticipated toast of the summer. Movimento Turismo del Vino and Città del Vino, the association of Italian winemaking cities, unite to give life to an event that revolves around a myriad of events all the way from the Val d’Aosta to Sicily.

Agriturismo Poggio al Tufo is a beautifully refurbished farmhouse near the historic village of Pitigliano, on the hills of the Maremma Toscana, few kilometers away from Grosseto. The agriturismo is sorrounded by vineyards belonging to the Tommasi family. The view is breathtaking and it is perfectly in keeping with its sorroundings. The Agriturismo Poggio al Tufo, composed of two adjacent buildings, has 8 rooms named after local sites. All rooms are elegant and have high end furnitures. The Agriturismo is run by a warm couple of housekeepers where the husband takes care mainly of the vineyards and the wife Ornella is the one in charge of pampering you producing delicious meals using only local ingredients. Of course, you can also taste all wines that the Tommasi family made in the area plus some of the award-winning wines that they produce in the Valpolicella region. In the backyard of the Agriturismo there is also a fully equipped large swimming pool where you can relax and hear only the birds singing. The Agriturismo Poggio al Tufo is also few kilometers away from Sovana, Sorano, from the most interesting sites of the Maremma Toscana like Terme di Saturnia and the most important Etruscan archeological sites.

Masseria Surani wine tasting for Saint Lawrence night

During the night of Saint Lawrence on the 10th of August, Puglia Wine Tourism Movement in collaboration with Puglia Region invites everyone to Copertino (Puglia) for the final day of Globets of stars event (Calici di Stelle).
In fact, the national wine event celebrating the night of shooting stars has many wine tasting around Italy. For Puglia many spectacular wine tastings have been organised, and Masseria Surani is celebrating this event with other 60 regional wine labels on the 10th of August. The wine tasting has been thought as a long journey through the three most famous Puglia wine regions: Terre di Federico, Magna Grecia and Salento.
Tasting tables handled by local sommeliers will guide visitors in choosing the proper wine.

Vino - A Taste of Italy

Here we are, ready for Expo Milano 2015! You'll find us at "Vino - A Taste of Italy" pavilion!
The Pavilion narrates and celebrates Italian wine and its terroirs, helping to explain and taste excellence Made in Italy, the outcome of 2500 years of history, culture, research and innovation. From the Domus Vini to the Terrace, the route is full of surprises (there is even an App) and a tour around the 5 senses of wine, the symbol of Italian Lifestyle. The world of Italian wine, its history and its future are to be found where the cardo and decumanus meet: in the WINE Pavilion at Expo, set up by Vinitaly and the Ministry of Agriculture to a design by archistar Italo Rota. A fascinating, interactive and multi-sensorial tour which unwinds over three floors: from the Domus Vini on the ground floor through to the terrace on the roof of the structure. Passing by way of the Wine Library on the first floor, an area for tasting great Italian wines - the result of passion and work, tradition and new technologies. From ancient Enotria to the Wine Store of the future (there is even an App), wine speaks of Italy and its 544 native vines - a unique feature typical of Italian lands and traditions. No other country in the world can boast such a strong and vital biodiversity, that has helped characterise a modus vivendi tracing its roots in the history of the peninsula across the centuries as well as defining the Italian Lifestyle known, appreciated (and unfortunately also imitated) all over the world.
Since London 1851, for the first time in the history of the Universal Exposition, an entire Pavilion will be dedicated to Italian Wine, highlighting that the story of life and food summed up in the slogan for Expo 2015 Milan - "Feeding the planet, energy for life" - also includes wine as an integral part of a balanced and internationally acknowledged dietary model. The tour of the VINO – A Taste of Italy Pavilion calls upon all five senses (taste, hearing, smell, sight, touch) to ensure total visitor involvement. Sounds, music, the great interpretations of wine in the arts and history (over 2,500 years) narrated through the skilful mastery of artists witnessing the interest of society as a whole towards 'planet wine'.
Almost unique experiences (the Winecard includes a glass and three wine tastings and may be 'recharged' only once, following the philosophy of responsible consumption of wine), with over 1,400 wines available on rotation during the six months of the event. The tour ends on the Terrace, an area where Italian wine-making companies and wine consortia will arrange appointments and guided tastings (the calendar is published in the tasting section).

Il padiglione celebra e racconta il vino italiano, i vitigni del territorio e permette di conoscere e degustare le eccellenze del Made in Italy, frutto di 2.500 anni di storia, cultura, ricerca e innovazione. Il mondo del vino italiano, la sua storia e il suo futuro si trovano nell’intersezione fra cardo e decumano: nel padiglione del VINO a Expo, realizzato da Vinitaly in collaborazione con il ministero delle Politiche agricole e progettato dall’archistar Italo Rota. Un percorso affascinante, interattivo e multisensoriale che si snoda lungo tre piani: dalla Domus Vini al piano terra, fino alla Terrazza a copertura della struttura. Passando per la Biblioteca del Vino al primo piano, un’area per degustare le grandi produzioni italiane, frutto di passione e di lavoro, di tradizione e di nuove tecnologie. Dall’antica Enotria all’Enoteca del futuro (c’è anche una App), il vino parla di Italia e dei suoi 544 vitigni autoctoni, una peculiarità tipica del territorio e delle tradizioni italiani. Nessun paese al mondo può contare una biodiversità così marcata e preziosa, che ha contribuito a caratterizzare un modus vivendi che affonda le proprie radici nella storia della Penisola, ne attraversa i secoli e ha contribuito a completare quello che è l’Italian Lifestyle, conosciuto, apprezzato (e purtroppo anche imitato) nel mondo. Da Londra 1851, per la prima volta nella storia dell’Esposizione Universale viene realizzato un padiglione dedicato al Vino italiano, a testimonianza che nel racconto della vita e dell’agroalimentare, sintetizzato nel claim di Expo 2015 Milano “Nutrire il pianeta, energia per la vita”, anche il vino è parte integrante di un modello enogastronomico equilibrato e riconosciuto a livello internazionale. Nel padiglione del VINO – A Taste of Italy, il percorso toccherà anche i cinque sensi (gusto, udito, olfatto, vista, tatto), per un coinvolgimento totale dei visitatori. Suoni, musica, le grandi rappresentazioni del vino nelle arti e la storia (oltre 2.500 anni) raccontata attraverso l’abile maestria degli artisti, che hanno testimoniato l’attenzione di intere società nei confronti del pianeta enoico.Esperienze quasi uniche (la Winecard offre in dotazione un bicchiere, permette l’assaggio di tre vini e può essere ricaricata soltanto una volta, secondo la filosofia del consumo consapevole del vino), con oltre 1.400 vini disponibili e a rotazione durante i sei mesi dell’evento. Termina il percorso la Terrazza, che prevede un’area in cui aziende e consorzi di tutela del vino italiano organizzeranno appuntamenti e degustazioni guidate (il calendario è pubblicato nella sezione degustazioni).
