Description

One of the more frequent questions we’re asked is, “How do I justify opening a bottle of Amarone when we can barely drink one glass?” We dare say this is the Amarone that you can open and enjoy at a meal without feeling overwhelmed. Elegant, smooth and never overpowering: these are the hallmark traits of our flagship wine. Every vintage offers nuances that develop over time, which is why we suggest that serious enophiles invest in more than one bottle. The more disciplined collector can enjoy the reward of a memorable vertical tasting, in a few years or decades. We take a traditional approach to our Amarone which favors elegance and balance. Spicy, earthy, and moka undertones complement a persistent bouquet of succulent black cherries, prunes and dried fruits. The grapes come from two of the choicest plots in the Valpolicella Classica region.

Tasting Note

Very intense ruby red color, the nose reveals intense and clean scents of very ripe cherry, black cherry, wild berries followed by fresh and slightly spicy tones. In the mouth it is dry and soft at the same time, enveloping and of great balance thanks to the excellent balance between acidity and tannins. The whole tasting is embellished with a very pleasant tannic texture, which fades towards a finish of excellent persistence, with light hints of red fruit.

Complex and beautiful aromas of blackberry, spice and coffee follow through to a full body and silky and polished tannins. Intense fruit is tied into a firm and polished tannin backbone. Beautiful now but better in 2019.

Wine Spectator

Dried strawberry and violet notes are layered with supple tannins in this medium-bodied Amarone, underscored by accents of wild herb, singed orange peel and wood smoke that linger on the silky finish. Drink now through 2023.

Vinous

Bright dark red with a pale amber tinge at the rim. Ripe aromas and flavors of red cherry and aromatic spices. Offers a decadent, luscious mouthfeel with soft tannins, but also a touch of alcohol-derived warmth. The finish is long and savory. […] It has a lovely easy to drink quality for such a big wine and is very hard to resist in its candied, opulent personality.

Appassimento

The selected grapes are placed onto traditional Arele and then left to rest for minimum 110 days in a large dedicated open room, where a ventilation system mantains an elevated and constant air flow. During this period the grapes are constantly checked since we want to keep them perfectly healthy, without any mildew.

Vineyard

La Groletta Vineyard
La Groletta Vineyard has always stood as a symbol of the Valpolicella Classica area. La Groletta grapes are the extraordinary result of the meeting of two great personalities: the hill of La Grola and the Valpolicella’s indigenous varieties. The excellent exposure of the vineyard, which enjoy the sun’s warm rays and the cool breezes that come from nearby Lake Garda, allows the grapes to produce their very best.
The wines from La Groletta are notable for their bold structure. It is usually quite direct, frank and masculine, and well-suited to aging in bottle. These soils are ideal for the activation of typical aromatic aromas, where the strength of the fruit and darker spice prevail.

Conca d’Oro Vineyard
Soil with a high fossil content indicate the presence of active limestone, which is thought to contribute to wine quality. This vineyard is therefore considered to be very prestigious. The presence of limestone in soil plays an essential role in enriching the fragrance, finesse and elegance of wines, helping to bring out distinctly floral aromas. It can
also enhance flavors on the palate, helping the wine to maintain a sense of crisp and crunchy fruit. The wines from this vineyard tend to be long-lived and can improve significantly with aging. They also offer great structure and complexity.
