The "Famiglie Storiche" elect the new president of the association and that of the Antica Bottega del Vino

Pierangelo Tommasi is now at the helm of Le Famiglie Storiche, taking over from Alberto Zenato, who has concluded his three-year term as President. At the same time, Sabrina Tedeschi has been elected to head up the Antica Bottega del Vino, following on from Tiziano Castagnedi.

Verona, 3rd June 2022

Pierangelo Tommasi is the new President of “Le Famiglie Storiche”. After three years as head of the group, Alberto Zenato has handed over to Pierangelo Tommasi (of the company named after his family) the baton of leadership of the Association that was founded in 2009 and that now includes thirteen historic producers of Amarone (Allegrini, Begali, Brigaldara, Guerrieri Rizzardi, Masi, Musella, Speri, Tedeschi, Tenuta Sant’Antonio, Tommasi, Torre d’Orti, Venturini and Zenato). Tommasi will have as his vice-presidents  Giuseppe Rizzardi of the Guerrieri Rizzardi company and Luca Speri of the Speri firm, with Alberto Zenato and Marilisa Allegrini as members of the Board.

The choice of Pierangelo Tommasi represents a natural succession within the association, which envisages the alternation of the Families in the positions of President and Vice-President: this too reflects the fact that we are a united and cohesive group, each with our own style, but with the same philosophy of production in common

says the outgoing President, Alberto Zenato, who himself succeeded from past-presidents Sandro Boscaini, Marilisa Allegrini and Sabrina Tedeschi.

Pierangelo Tommasi takes over an association that is extremely dynamic – its activities did not even come to a halt during the pandemic – and it is already preparing to face up to an autumn full of events both in Italy and abroad.

“I thank Alberto Zenato for having carried forward so admirably the work and the activities of the Association at a moment in history more difficult than any other our generation has lived through. I am honored to preside over this group of esteemed colleagues and friends – historic companies and custodians of our terroir – and continue following the course that was begun thirteen years ago, with the aim of bearing witness to the values we share, as well as those of a denomination unlike any other in the world. We shall do so with lots of activities in Italy and abroad, developing incoming towards our companies and networking with other entities in our region”.

At the same time as the election of the President of Le Famiglie Storiche, there also took place that for the executive management (also for a three-year period) of the Antica Bottega del Vino which, since 2010, has been the property of Le Famiglie Storiche. This restaurant boasts roots that go as far back as the sixteenth century, and still remains today –  thanks to its history, its menu of typical Veneto dishes, and its extraordinary wine list – a point of reference for the city of Verona and for Italy, as well as being famous all over the world.
The new President is Maria Sabrina Tedeschi, who succeeds from Tiziano Castagnedi, who was in charge for the three previous years. Francesco Allegrini will be her Vice-President, and  Giacomo Boscaini and Antonio Cesari will be counsellors.

Pierangelo Tommasi – President of Le Famiglie Storiche

Pierangelo Tommasi is one of the nine members of the fourth generation of the Tommasi family, which today runs the Tommasi Family Estates.

Having finished his studies, Pierangelo immediately began working full time in the company, performing various roles, from warehouseman to coordinator of tours and tastings for foreign visitors to the winery, before taking charge of foreign markets. The experience he gained (not only as Export Director), but also the fact of being involved in different departments of the company, including new acquisitions and strategies for development, led to his becoming today Executive Director of the family’s  group.

Pierangelo inherited a passion for wine from his father and his uncles, with whom he visited the vineyards since he was a boy, taking part in the harvests and absorbing the virtues of rigor and loyalty.

Pierangelo is happily married, with two children and a dog, and – apart from wine – he has a great love for soccer, both as a player and a fan.

Maria Sabrina Tedeschi – President of the Antica Bottega del Vino

Maria Sabrina Tedeschi graduated from the State University in Milan in Food Science and Technology, and during her course she did an internship at the University of Enology at Dijon (in Burgundy in France).

After her studies, she worked as a teacher of enology and researcher at the Mach Foundation at San Michele all’Adige (near Trento).

Subsequently, her passion for her region and her desire to develop her family company (Società Agricola F.lli Tedeschi) prevailed and so, in 2000, she returned to Valpolicella to work alongside her siblings Riccardo and Antonietta and her father Lorenzo.

Today , she is in charge of the company’s Marketing and Communications department, as well as looking after the export market in the countries of Europe, the East and Far-East.

In the period 2016-2019 she was President of Le Famiglie Storiche. She is a member of the Le Donne del Vino Association.

Le Famiglie Storiche is the Association created in June 2009 by the union of 10 historic producers in the Valpolicella region. Today it includes 13 members, all of which are prestigious wineries that have been active ambassadors for several generations of “the world of Amarone”: Allegrini, Begali, Brigaldara, Guerrieri Rizzardi, Masi, Musella, Speri, Tedeschi, Tenuta Sant’Antonio, Tommasi, Torre D’Orti, Venturini and Zenato.

These Families, who together bring to fruition a heritage consolidated by each of them over the course of time, as well as a constant commitment to quality in promoting the exceptional wine that goes by the name of Amarone, all have their roots in the fundamental values of history and craftsmanship, expressed in a whole host of different ways. Their efforts are aimed at making known and safeguarding not only their wines, but also one of Italy’s most strategic wine production zones, Valpolicella.

Le Famiglie Storiche represent:

History: they have belonged to the world of Valpolicella for a great many years and they are deeply rooted in it.

Passion: more than just vine-growers, they are custodians of their terroir.

A Project: the Association was created with the precise goal of bearing witness to the values of a region and a denomination that have no equal anywhere in the world.
