WELCOME to BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO DOCG 2015

The first great vintage produced by the Tommasi family
Montalcino (SI), 21st February 2020 – From 21st to 24th February, during the “Benvenuto Brunello” event organized by the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino and in the meetings that will take place at Casisano itself, the Tommasi family – vintners since 1902 – will present their first “own” Brunello.
The 2015 will, in fact, be the first to be supervised totally, from the vineyard to the winery, by enologists Emiliano Falsini and Giancarlo Tommasi.
Casisano’s Brunello, made entirely from Sangiovese Grosso grapes, comes from the nine hectares of vines dedicated exclusively to the production of this particular wine. These are Cordon Spur-trained and have a south-easterly exposure, on mixed soils that are rich in stones and galestro (schistous marl).
In 2015, there were ideal climatic conditions (a mild winter, normally rainy spring, dry summer and a variable autumn with excellent thermal excursion) in order to obtain grapes with notably complex aromas, elegant tannins and much higher than average natural acidity: all decisive in creating a product of rare and outstanding quality.
“The 2015 vintage may be considered one of the best in the last decades, due to the ideal weather in every season” states enologist Emiliano Falsini, in charge of production at Casisano. “Loving Montalcino is an act of faith in Sangiovese: the Brunello denomination is in constant evolution, but it is always faithful to its one true love. This is a region that has succeeded in renewing itself and become ever more important, always guided by the distinctive characteristics of its main grape variety and thanks to great producers who have never turned their backs on quality.  2015 also marks a new course for Casisano, a splendid estate in one of the highest points of the denomination, where elegance, acidity and freshness are what this extraordinary terroir offers us, and these are the traits we have sought to encapsulate in this fine wine”.

Taste characteristics and the winemaking process
Casisano’s 2015 Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. displays a deep ruby color, tinged with garnet. It opens up on the nose with an elegant, fresh complexity, based on the fruity and spicy notes that are typical of Sangiovese. It offers attractive balance on the palate, with its great structure being accompanied by velvety tannins and considerable persistence. The winemaking process for the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino follows the traditional method of maceration on the skins for around twenty-five days, followed by three years’ maturation in Slavonian oak casks (with a maximum capacity of sixty hectoliters) and at least six months’ bottle-aging.

De Buris Illustre - Winter

De Buris Illustre is a project that is deeply rooted in the richness of the Valpolicella Classica zone and which, by means of images as symbols, speaks of today’s luxury of time, and the cultural heritage of Amarone.
The new vintage of the Tommasi family’s ambitious project is unveiled through the art of illustration, a universal vocabulary which conveys the inherent culture and terroir of this great Amarone.
De Buris means considering a great Amarone as part of a broader cultural project open to new avenues of communication.
Illustration was chosen because it is creative and spontaneous like the design of nature, and necessitates a technical mastery which can be likened to the skill of a winemaker.

The Tommasi family entrusted to four Italian artists - Giacomo Bagnara, Andrea Mongia, Antonio Sortino and Alice Piaggio – the assignment of representing Time, Place and Heritage through the universal language of illustration: hence De Buris Illustre (“Illustrious De Buris”, but also “De Buris Illustrated”).
The focal concept is that of Time, the real luxury of today: each illustrator was given one of the seasons, with the task of interpreting it - seeking inspiration from the time of year itself and showing it in the moments when wine is consumed, in the places that make up De Buris (such as the Villa and the La Groletta vineyard), and in the technical aspects linked to the production of the wine itself – always in line with the artist’s poetic vision.
«With De Buris we wanted to illustrate the handover from one generation to the next, but even more we wanted to celebrate the area to which we belong and where we grew up, not only with a great Amarone but also with a communication project that was innovative for us, aimed at a wide audience and requiring profound contents and values», explains enologist Giancarlo Tommasi.
With the Winter Solstice, we greet and thank Giacomo Bagnara, who took care of the 2009 vintage launch and told the Autumn, and we welcome Andrea Mongia, who with his illustrations will describe Winter colors and emotions.
Andrea Mongia: Whether his approach is narrative or conceptual, he fascinates you with his essential yet refined style, in which the light and colors seem to be fixed in his landscapes and panoramic views with the aim of drawing the observer into the world of his imagination. Freelance illustrator, he lives and works in Rome. He has been selected by Forbes in the 30 under 30 in Art & Culture list. Andrea Mongia’s illustrations have illuminated the pages of The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Economist and multiple books. He has exhibited in Italy and the US and is a member of Studio Pilar, a cultural association and collective of four illustrators.
Giacomo Bagnara: His capacity for synthesis and use of colors, together with a rigorous research on shapes, is what makes Giacomo’s work unique, bold and explosive. Freelance illustrator, collaborates with The New Yorker, The New York Times, Die Zeit, Mondadori, Apple, Sony. His work has been selected and recognized from American Illustration, 3x3Magazine and the Society of Illustrators. He has a degree in Architecture and currently lives and works in Verona.

Illustratore freelance, vive e lavora a Roma. È stato selezionato da Forbes nella lista Arte e Cultura 30 Under 30.
Lavora e collabora con The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Boston Globe, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, The Sunday Times Magazine e molti altri.
The New Yorker, The New York Times, Die Zeit, Mondadori, Apple, Sony. Il suo lavoro è stato selezionato e riconosciuto da American Illustration, 3x3Magazine e la Society of Illustrators. Ha una laurea in Architettura ed attualmente vive e lavora a Verona.

A Christmas menu at high altitude: Air Dolomiti & Tommasi Family Estates

A Christmas menu at high altitude: Air Dolomiti & Tommasi Family Estates join forces for a voyage through the flavors of Italy
Select produce, tradition and creativity: these are the ingredients for an unforgettable gastronomic experience, accompanied by the Tommasi family’s finest wines
Air Dolomiti, the Italian airline in the Lufthansa group, is getting ready for Christmas: from 19th December 2019 to 6th January 2020, its business class passengers will be able to savor a special Christmas menu, created together with Tommasi Family Estates, which celebrates the authentic Italian tradition and the atmosphere of the festive season. Air Dolomiti thus further reinforces its partnership with Tommasi, which is already its Official Winery for 2019.
Air Dolomiti and Tommasi share a concern for the care of their clients and the promotion of authentic regional identity. This new voyage through the country’s food and wines has been devised to offer travelers a culinary experience whose quality is in line with the Company’s high standards.
Today, Tommasi represents not only wine, but also top-class restaurants: Ristorante Borgo Antico at the Villa Quaranta Wine Hotel & Spa, and the Caffè Dante Bistrot, in the heart of Verona. Chefs Emanuele Selvi and Alessandro Bozza have come up with a menu together based on inviting food and wine pairings and genuine flavors: a gastronomic itinerary in which the ingredients, tradition and unquestionable creativity will allow passengers to enjoy a unique experience.
The menu envisages a course for every moment of the day: for breakfast, Torta Russa, a typical specialty of Verona with a delicious filling of almonds and amaretto cookies; and for lunch, roast stuffed rabbit, braised Veronese radicchio and a Valpolicella wine sauce, a tasty and unusual delicacy. For an afternoon snack, there is a zabaglione Bavarian cream with Cologna Veneta nougat and a heart of coffee. Lastly, for dinner, the dish is Lucanica sausage cooked in Ripasso wine on turmeric-flavored Jerusalem artichoke cream with crispy Parmesan half spheres and candied ginger: a perfect combination enhanced by the oriental spices. Also, for lunch and dinner on selected routes, rosemary-scented cheese sbrisolona (crumble) will be available.
Accompanying these dishes will be the Rosé version of Caseo Pinot Nero, the 100% Falanghina-based Paternoster Vulcanico and the elegant Tommasi Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore D.O.C.. These exclusive selections will make the flight particularly festive and special during the holiday period.
Air Dolomiti’s passengers have shown great appreciation for the partnership with Tommasi: from January of this year until now they have in fact bought around 30,000 bottles of the wines from the Tommasi Family Estates that have been selected for the “Winery of the Year” program : Casisano Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C., Tommasi Le Fornaci Lugana D.O.C. and Caseo Pinot Nero Brut.

«We are very honored to receive this coveted award, which rewards the foresight of an investment made by our parents in 1992. - Michela Tommasi states - Since then, our family has worked to spread knowledge and appreciation of the unique territories of Verona and the Valpolicella Classica, here in Italy, and throughout the world. We speak of  beauty and the intrinsic values, not only through wine production, but also by expanding the touchpoints to hospitality, which has always been in our DNA. Today, Tommasi represents Italian excellence with award winning wines present in more than 70 countries around the world. Today, we are particularly proud to have had this opportunity to also shine in the international spotlight for our wine hospitality business»

The prize confirms the innovation and excellence of wine tourism at Villa Quaranta Tommasi Wine Hotel & SPA worldwide within the project of the Great Wine Capitals, the network created between ten capital cities of world wine excellence ( from Bilbao to Adelaide, passing through Bordeaux, Napa Valley, Chile and Argentina), and to Italy, represented by Verona.
The competition rewards those establishments that stand out for the excellence of their wine tourism-related services within various categories. The judges evaluate cultural, artistic and architectural aspects, sustainable practices in the tourism sector, as well as the overall quality of the accommodations and catering.
«A few months ago we were nominated the regional winner in Verona in the hospitality category, and went on to compete for the International award among the other 9 regional winners nominated from other cities. - continues the director Luca Carrara - A heartfelt thanks goes to the whole Tommasi family for the continuous courage to invest in improvements to the products and services at Villa Quaranta, which allows us to compete with the best of global wine tourism and win. Needless to say, all the investments in the world would be useless without a first class staff. I am proud to say that I manage a great group of competent professionals, passionate about what they do here every day.»
terme-della-valpolicella
«The welcome of a family, the services of a fine hotel, the eclecticism of a complex that has grown and evolved over the years, as well as the teamwork exemplified by the commitment of the staff -  says Barbara Tommasi - have resulted in a high-quality process of development of which we are very proud. Hospitality is a fundamental and strategic part of the overall vision of Tommasi Family Estates. Not only wine, but also a sum of the experiences and emotions that are connected to it. From the shared enjoyment of dining together, to the wellness and meeting opportunities: all of these are available in a unique and exclusive venue that will satisfy the demands of any consumer.»
In all of Tommasi’s locations that provide hospitality, from Villa Quaranta to the Mazzanti Hotel in the center of Verona and the nearby Caffè Dante Bistrot, as well as the Poggio al Tufo Agriturismo in the Maremma area of Tuscany – and, last but not least, at the historic Winery at Pedemonte, which has now been completely refurbished – one can enjoy unique experiences in absolutely authentic settings.
Each of them bear the identity of a family that has transmitted the values of craftsmanship and quality for four generations.

Villa Quaranta is an integral part of the Tommasi family’s corporate strategy, which promotes the rich traditions, culture and terroir of the Valpolicella Classica. The area is imbibed with the beauty of its wines, the vine-clad hills, quaint towns and natural attractions, and together, represent a constant source of inspiration as we enthusiastically continue to find ways to delight our guests with unforgettable experiences.
