Poggio al Tufo – ROMPICOLLO TOSCANA IGT
31st PLACE IN WINE SPECTATOR TOP 100 WINES OF 2014
Prestigious award for the estate in Tuscany Maremma owned by Tommasi Family Estates, historical producers of Valpolicella Classica
The Poggio al Tufo – Rompicollo, a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, has deserved the 31st place in the “Top 100 Wines of 2014” by Wine Spectator, the prestigious American magazine, the wines bible in the world.
A great success considering that they were tasted over 18,000 wines and the Italian labels are only 19 in the Top 100.
An announced result considering the 92 points and the “smart buy” review of last Spring.
«Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo presents a whiff of blackberry, bacon and ink, followed by dark berry, black pepper and spice notes. Rich and supple, with ample structure for support and a long, fruit, spice and mineral filled aftertaste. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2015 through 2022» said Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator’s Senior Editor and Tasting Director.
The Tommasi family is the only Venetian in the ranking. It is with pride, that they receive this award, which rewards the project of the Poggio al Tufo Estate (80 hectares), an investment made in 1997 in Pitigliano. At that time the Tuscany Maremma was a little known area, but now, thanks to the foresight of some great entrepreneurs, is certainly one of the emerging Italian wine regions with products recognized as excellent.
The Tommasi Family Estates Poggio al Tufo – Rompicollo is an official ambassador of the Tuscany Maremma in the world, present in all five continents markets and available in the wine lists of fine restaurants and selected wine shops.
This accolade awarded to Rompicollo is a testimony of the longstanding commitment and dedication of the Tommasi family whom, just last year with the opening of the agriturismo (farm holidays), in the middle of the Poggio al Tufo Estate, completed the dream started in 1997.
